PZAZZ! Carving for a Cause Winners Announced
BURLINGTON, IOWA - PZAZZ! Entertainment Complex announced Protectors of Animal Welfare (PAW), the winner of the 1st Annual PZAZZ! Pumpkin Carving for a Cause Charity Event. Thirteen local non-profit organizations will share $5250 in cash prizes. The organizations carved pumpkins at PZAZZ on October 14 and the pumpkins were displayed at PZAZZ most of October. "We thought the pumpkins would last longer than they did," said Promotions Manager, Carole Halicki. "The event ended a day earlier than expected when the pumpkins began decaying so badly. We'll make some adjustments for next year."

Over 2200 ballots were cast for the pumpkins of people's choice. Protectors of Animal Welfare (PAW) of Fort Madison was the top vote getter and receives $1200. The Boy Scouts of America Troop 25 of Burlington won second place and $850. Burlington Notre Dame Foundation of Burlington placed third and receives $700.

Each of the other 10 participating charities receives a $250 donation to their organization:
  • Friends of Community Field (Burlington)
  • Farmers Merchants Community Foundation (Burlington)
  • Relay for Life Team Think Pink (Mediapolis)
  • West Point Fireworks Committee (West Point)
  • Des Moines County Historical Society (Burlington)
  • Hope Haven Area Development Center (West Burlington)
  • Animal Angels (Mediapolis)
  • North Lee County Historical Society (Ft. Madison)
  • Generations Area Agency on Aging (Ft. Madison)
  • ACS Relay For Life Team Noanner's Persevering Pink Flamingos (Danville)
  • "PZAZZ! offered this event as a fun way for area non-profits to receive funds for their organization. Each charity was a winner regardless how many votes they received," said Halicki.
